초로기치매를 앓는 배우자를 돌보는 남편의 수발경험에 관한 현상학적 연구 = A Phenomenological Study on the Caregiving Experience of the Husbands who are Caring for Wives with Presenile Dementia

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research is to understand the meaning and essence of the caregiving experience of husbands with spouses who are suffering from presenile dementia in Korea in order to fully understand their experiences. This research utilized Colaizzi`s phenomenological research method. Research participants were six husbands who have taken care of their spouses diagnosed with Alzheimer type presenile dementia for over 3 years. In-depth interview was utilized in collecting data. Data analysis was based on the 6 steps presented by Colaizzi. According to the research result, we have derived 15 themes on the essential structure of experience and 5 theme clusters. The final 5 theme clusters that were derived are as the following: difficulty in cognizing their wife`s disease, agony of caregiving as a husband and parent, economic damage and desire to work, adaptation through self-change and social supporting organizations, and the need for rational and specialized services. Based on the research result, we have discussed the relation between social welfare and the caregiving experience of husbands with spouses suffering from presenile dementia in the unique socio-cultural Korean context, and lastly made suggestions for social welfare and social welfare practice.
