A Study on Exploring the Academic Persistence and Dropout of Korean Universities and Colleges' Students Kim, Sooyeon(Daewon Science College)This study examined the academic persistence and dropout of Korean universities and colleges' students. And this explored which individual characteristics influence their academic persistence and dropout. This study is based on the KLIPS Panel Data undertaken from 1998 to 2003. This study sampled total 684, 282 persisters(41.2%) and 402 withdrawers(58.8%) among universities and colleges' students. They were analyzed with logistic regression method. Results indicated that: (1) sex, age, and coincidence between residence and institution location had significant effects on persistence; (2) there was a greater tendency to persist among female students, late learners, and the students who coincide between their residence and location of institution where they are at. This is not so for male students, college-aged students, and the students who don't coincide between their residence and location of institution. This study suggested making the college policy according to the persister's attributes of each universities and colleges based on their investigation of them.
