The purpose of this research was to identify relations between maturity of consciousness in relation to future career of college student in the department of physical education and their preparatory behaviors toward future career by establishing a hypothetical cause-effect model on the basis of precedent research works.
To test this, on-campus students in the department of physical education of Y university located in Yong-in district, Gyeonggi-do as of 2006 were selected as population and 405 participants were sampled by using Multistage Stratified Cluster Random Sampling Method.
Cronbach's α, reliability of questionnaire used in the research was .658~.813 showing comparatively higher inner consistency.
Statistical-analytical methods used in this research were Frequency Analysis, Reliability Analysis, T-Test, One-Way ANOVA, Correlation Analysis, Multi- regression Analysis, and so on. From the results of these analyses, the following conclusions were reached.
First, results from the analysis of the maturity of consciousness in relation to future career according to background variable of college students in the department of physical education revealed that there were significant differences between the groups in attitude toward future career according to the school year and in compromising attitude toward future career, and results from the analysis of the maturity of consciousness in relation to future career according to gender displayed that there were no significant differences between the groups.
Second, results from analysis of preparatory behavior for future career according to background variable of college students in the department of physical education showed that there were significant differences between groups according to the school year and the course, and that there were no significant differences between groups according to gender.
Third, results from the analysis revealed that decision on future career (β=.172) and independence in decision making on future career (β=.207), which were sub-variables of maturity of consciousness in relation to future career, had statistically significant influences on preparatory behavior for future career.
