노부모의 지원과 이혼한 성인 자녀의 이혼 후 적응 = Support from The Elderly Parents and The Post-Divorce Adjustment of Adult Children

The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of three type of support(financial, emotional, instrumental) from the elderly parents on the psychological adjustment(self-acceptance, depression) of divorced adult children focused on gender differences. The data were gathered from 307 divorced adult children who have been divorced for less than five years and who have at least one surviving parent. Statistical methods used for the data analysis were descriptive statistics, t-test and multiple regression analysis. The major results were as follows. The type of parental support that respondents received most frequently was emotional support and divorced men received more instrumental support from elderly parents than divorced women. Parental support has both positive and negative effects on post-divorce adjustment of divorced children by the type of support and gender of adult children. For divorced men, emotional support from parents had negative effects on self-acceptance and financial support from parents increased depression. But instrumental support from parents was related with the better self-acceptance and the lower level of depression. For divorced women, instrumental support from parents had positive influence on self-acceptance but there is no relation between parental support and depression of divorced women.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 이혼을 경험한 성인 자녀들이 노부모로부터 제공받는 경제정서`도구적 지원의 양상과 이러한 노부모의 지원이 이혼한 성인 자녀의 심리적인 적응에 미치는 영향에 대하여 살펴보고 이상의 과정에서 성별에 따른 차이가 있는지를 살펴보고자 수행되었다. 이러한 연구 목적을 위하여 서울`경기 지역에 거주하며 현재 부모가 한분이라도 생존해 계신다고 응답한 이혼한 지 5년 이내의 성인 남녀 307명(남: 178명, 여: 129명)으로부터 노부모의 지원과 이혼 후의 심리적인 적응상태(자긍심과 우울감)에 대한 자료를 수집하였다. 이혼을 경험한 성인 자녀가 받는 노부모의 지원과 이혼 후 적응 수준 그리고, 남녀 차이를 살펴보기 위하여 기술 통계와 t-검증을 실시하였으며, 노부모의 지원이 이혼 후 적응에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위하여 남녀를 나누어 중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이혼한 남성과 이혼한 여성 모두 노부모로부터 정서적 지원을 가장 빈번히 받고 있으며 경제적 지원을 가장 미약하게 받고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 노부모로부터의 지원 수혜 양상에 성별에 따른 차이가 있는지 살펴본 결과, 도구적 지원 영역에서 이혼한 남성이 이혼한 여성보다 노부모로부터 지원을 더 많이 받고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 노부모의 지원이 이혼한 성인 자녀의 이혼 후 적응에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과, 이혼한 남성의 경우, 노부모의 정서적 지원이 자긍심을 낮추었으며 경제적 지원이 우울감을 높였다. 이에 반해 노부모의 도구적 지원은 자긍심을 높이고 우울감을 낮추었다. 한편, 이혼한 여성의 경우에는 노부모의 지원은 우울감과 아무런 관련성이 없었으며 노부모의 도구적 지원만이 자긍심을 높이는 것으로 나타났다.
