로컬리티의 문화정치학과 비판적 로컬리티 연구

This paper intends to address the cultural politics of locality and think the possibility of the critical locality studies. It is primarily focused on such questions as why locality studies has risen, how the sense of locality and the local has altered in the context of global capitalism, and what kinds of critical work have to be practiced in order to establish the critical locality studies. First of all, the rise of locality studies is closely related with the transformation in the local derived from the restructuring of the existing industrial composition. Experiencing the change from manufacturing industry into service and finance one, the local has altered itself and is being constructed in new manners. In particular behind this restructuring process lies the rise of global capitalism, which will play more influential roles than nation-states in controlling and determining the future of the local. In this circumstance, this paper intervenes critically in the study of the local and tries to draw the mapping of the critical locality studies. The critical locality studies will be designed as a theoretical method both to criticize the locality studies grounded upon the Western modernity and its development model and to construct the alternative modernities reflecting positively the marginalities and multiculturalities excluded by the Western modernity.
