Based on the correlation between the human behaviors and motivations, the purpose of this study is to define the nature of the dance motivations and its element factors as the personal attributes variables that affect the dance performance in terms of the dance psychology. To understand the nature of the theoretically conceptualized as mentioned above, as the Research I of this study, the representative group who can understand the concept of the dance motivation was selected to perform the unstructured open-ended questionnaires and then the qualitative analysis was made on the results. In the result of the data analysis, the 97 motivation-related responses in total showed the 8 specific categories of sub-factor that were divided into 1 extrinsic motivation of Recommendation factor and 7 intrinsic motivations including the Interest, Achievement, Curiosity, Show-off, Instinct, Aptitude and Talent. Based on the results of above mentioned Research I, the Research II was organized with the 22 structured questionnaires with the 4-point scale, and the random sampling was made toward 384 male and female dancers who belong to the art high schools, art colleges and professional dance companies nationwide. The element factors of the dance motivation were structured via exploratory factor analysis largely into 3 responses including the Interest & Curiosity; Self-expression and Show-off; Talent and Aptitude. The highest dance motivation factor was the Interest & Curiosity that enabled the dancers to participate and perform the dance behavior. The second motivation was the show-off factor to express themselves and receive the recognition and the third one was the natural born or acquired talent and aptitude. Based on this study, it is recommended to extend the subsequent studies where the questionnaire is developed to determine the dance motivation and the dance motivation is intensified in the positive directions both under the dance performance and education circumstances.
