<열녀춘향수절가>의 주제 형성 연구 = A Study of Formation of Themes Shown in The Faithfulness Story of Virtuous Woman, Chunhyang(烈女春香水節歌)

This study will illustrate how themes of ``The Faithfulness Story of Virtuous Woman, Chunhyang`` form in the story line. This article is designed 1) to examine the purpose of adaptation focused on the work`s title and beginning parts, 2) to analyze the specific contents that reflect adapter`s intention, and 3) to explain the principle of thematic formation, based on the Book of Change.The title shows that virtue and faithfulness of Chunhyang are significant aspects in the story of the marriage between Chunhyang and Mongryong(夢龍). In addition to inference from the title, the beginning parts describe national prosperity and welfare through virtue of king, goodness of king`s men, and education of people.As for its plot, faithfulness of a virtuous woman is structured to show the harmony among king, king`s men and people. The goodness of king`s men is embodied by contrasting a royal subject winning respect from people with Byeon Harkdo(卞學道), a corrupt governor who is blamed for his personal degradation. Education of people is specified through Chunhyang`s resolution to be faithful against the governor Byeon who wrongly forced her to provide bed service.King`s virtue is substantially finalized through investing Chunhyang with an honorary Lady because she has been faithful despite her status as a courtesan.This study depends on the perspective of ``SooPoongJungKwae(水風)`` for explanation of the thematic formation. 井卦The ideal state of national prosperity is believed to be realized when perpetual virtue of king works efficiently, and royal government makes people feel comfortable. In this regard, the adapted artifact aims at pursuing favorable government and moral education for people`s better living.These themes reflect the spirit of the age that traditional ethical codes are conducive to overcome of national crises and finally to national prosperity.
