비판적 사고'가 갖는 철학적 함의 = Philosophical Implications of 'Critical Thinking'

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글의 목적은 기존 비판적 사고를 둘러싼 담론에 대한 문제점에 대해 살펴 본 후, 비판적 사고에 대한 철학적 근거가 무엇인지에 대한 논의를 토대로 우리가 지향해야할 비판적 사고의 대안적 모델을 제시하는데 있다.
기존 비판적 사고에 대한 논의는 그 형식과 기술에만 초점을 맞추어 왔다. 이 점은 비판적 사고가 갖는 본성을 전혀 드러내지 못하는 결과를 초래한다. 왜냐하면, 형식적 사고는 비판적 사고의 핵심적인 측면인 비형식적 요소에 해당하는 감정 요인을 비롯하여 '반성', '성향', '상황' 등을 적절하게 반영해 낼 수 없기 때문이다.
비판적 사고는 추론적 사고이기는 하지만 논리적 사고와는 다르다. 논리적 사고가 비판적 사고의 부분 집합이라는 점에서 비판적 사고의 상당 부분은 '비논리적 사고'로 이루어져 있다. 비판적 사고의 비논리적 사고가 논리적 사고로 대치될 수는 없지만, 얼마든지 그 정당성이 확보될 수 있다. 왜냐하면 비논리적 사고는 말의 힘을 이용해 상대를 설득하는데 초점을 맞춘다는 점에서 형식을 넘어 정당화가 필요한 사고이기 때문이다. 결국 비판적 사고는 주관적 판단을 '객관적 판단'에 수렴하는 사고라는 측면을 반영한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Primarily, this article reviews the existing problems of the discourses about critical thinking. The ultimate aim of this article is to suggest an ideal model of critical thinking that we need to achieve based on the discourses on the philosophical foundation of critical thinking.
The conventional discussion of critical thinking have merely focused on its form and technique. This results in the failure of revealing its essential aspects: 'reflection', 'disposition', 'context' and emotional character of thinking as informal.
Critical thinking can be counted for inferential thinking but not logical thinking itself. Rather, critical thinking embraces logical thinking, thus it requires 'illogical thinking' as its meaningful parts. In critical thinking, it is possible to justify illogical thinking though not to be replaced by logical thinking. Critical thinking focuses on how to persuade others using the power of argumentation regardless of its formalization. With this, I argue that critical thinking reflects the aspects of reducing subjective judgement to 'objective judgement'.
