아동 대상 성범죄자에 대한 사람들의 고정관념에 관한 연구 = Comparison of stereotypes about child sexual abusers with their actual characteristics

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

We often find that we, as a social group, share stereotypes of criminals. For the present study we investigated the stereotypes of child sexual abusers, and examined if they match the reality of child sexual abusers in Korea. Collecting data from 77 college students and 77 police officers, we compared stereotypes about child sexual abusers with the actual characteristics of those reported on the national crime statistics. First, the main characteristics of child sexual abusers we investigated include their age, occupation, previous criminal records, and onset age of sexual offense. Second, the offense characteristics we investigated include time and place of the offense, offender-victim relationships, and offending behavior. Third, we also examined sentencing types and the length of incarceration. Finally, limitations and implications of the present study are discussed.
