This paper examines whether nationalism can affect on Senkaku Islands dispute between China and Japan. The research results found the tendency that nationalism in the both countries was enhanced in the deteriorating period of the dispute. The Senkaku dispute has experienced three stages. The first stage is the potential dispute period. This stage is the period of the Cold War Era when China needed financial assistance from Japan for its economic development. In addition, the both state wanted to check the Soviet security threats. The second stage is the period of mid 1990s when economic gain from Senkaku Islands became significant. The fishery and energy development in the area of Senkaku Islands became the source of enhanced dispute. The third stage is the period of strategic importance. The emerging China and economically defeated Japan struggled with each other. This reinforced the Japan-US alliance. The reason why the Senkaku dispute has deteriorated in the mid 1990 was that Revised Nationalism in Japan and New Nationalism in China have emerged. China tried to complement socialism with nationalism. In Japan, the young generation felt free from the historical legacy and felt bad with economic stagnation and felt threatened from emerging China.
