한국노인의 전통적 가치관에 따른 성공적 노화 인식 차이 = Differences of Perceived Successful Aging According to Traditional Values for Korean Elderly

The purpose of this study was to explore relationship of successful aging perceived by Korean elderly and traditional values-Confucianism and Familism-. A sample of 652 elderly aged 65 and over living in Seoul and Kyunggi areas was selected and interviewed. The survey was done with a standardized questionnaire(confucianism, familism, successful aging, socio-demographic characteristics). The major findings of this study are as follows. First, traditional values more effect on the degree that Korean elderly think importantly about dimensions and elements of successful aging perceived by them than socio-demographic characteristics. Second, types of confucianism-familism values for Korean elderly are classified into four types : ‘Patrilineage-oriented type’, ‘Traditional breakaway type’, ‘Traditional adherence type’, ‘Confucianism-oriented type’. And the types exhibited significant differences in terms of socio-demographic characteristics. Third, elderly of ‘Traditional adherence type’ and ‘Confucianism-oriented type’ following the traditional values more lay emphasis on five dimensions and several elements of perceived successful aging and more mention importance on diverse components than elderly who is free from traditional values. This study is meaningful because it was verified by statistical analysis for relationship traditional values and successful aging perceived by Korean elderly, while past studies for successful aging were analyzed in dimension of discussion.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국의 전통적 가치관인 유교주의와 가족주의가 한국노인들이 인식하는 성공적 노화에 어떻게 반영되고 있는지를 밝히고자 하였다. 연구대상자는 서울과 경기 지역에 거주하는 65세 이상 남녀노인 총 652명으로, 일대일 직접 설문조사를 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전통적인 가치관이 강할수록 성공적인 노화에 대해 중요하게 생각하는 정도가 더 강했으며, 사회인구학적인 특성에 비해 전통적인 가치관이 성공적인 노화에 대한 인식에 보다 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 한국노인들의 전통적인 가치관 정도에 따라 유형을 분류한 결과, ‘부계혈연 지향형’, ‘전통이탈형’, ‘전통고수형’, ‘유교 지향형’으로 구분되었으며, 유형에 따라 사회인구학적인 특성에 있어 차이가 나타났다. 셋째, 유교-가족주의 유형에 따라 성공적인 노화의 차원에 대해 중요하게 여기는 정도에 있어 차이가 나타나는 것이 확인되었으며, 유교주의와 가족주의 가치관이 모두 강한 노인들과 유교주의 가치관이 강한 노인들이 가족주의의 부계혈연 중심성만 강하거나 한국 전통적인 가치인 유교주의와 가족주의에서 벗어나 있는 노인들에 비해서 성공적인 노화의 각 차원을 보다 더 강하게 중요시하는 것으로 나타났으며, 보다 다양한 요소들에 대해서 중요하게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 지금까지 이루어진 연구들에서 성공적인 노화의 특성에 대해 담론 차원에서 한국 고유의 전통적인 가치관과 관련하여 해석이 이루어져왔지만, 본 연구에서는 설문지를 통한 양적연구를 실시함으로써 현재 한국노인들이 중요하게 여기는 성공적인 노화의 차원과 전통적인 가치관과의 관계에 대해 통계적 유의미한 관계를 밝혀냈다는데 의의가 있다.
