      The purpose of this study is to investigate the change of young children`s spatial awareness through making favorable environment for the playing area as wall as to examine the importance of a favorable play environment in the area of block play. For attaining the purpose, the posed questions are as follows: First, does a favorable play environment have differences on young children`s spatial awareness? 1-1) does a favorable play environment have differences on young children`s figure-ground perception? 1-2) does a favorable play environment have differences on young children`s preception constancy? 1-3) does a favorable play environment have differences on young children`s position-in-space perception? 1-4) does a favorable play environment have differences on young children`s perception of spatial relationship? 1-5) does a favorable play environment have differences on young children`s visual discrimination? 1-6) does a favorable play environment have differences on young children`s visual memory? For this study 50 children of 4-year at S kindergarten in Incheon were divided into an experimental group(25 children)with a favourable play environment in the area of block play and a comparative group(25 children). The procedure of study included a pre-test, a 9-week treatment and a post-test. Before the experiment, two test were executed from June 2, 2006 through June 4, 2006; the test of young children`s spatial ability. Two groups were confirmed as the same value groups. In this study, the room of the experimental group was decorated in connection with the children`s living and a comparative group played block building according to children`s interests. The collected data were analyzed by a t-test to observe the difference between two groups. And the significant level was α=.05. The findings of this study were as follows: First, the test group showed a statistically significant difference compared to the comparison group in terms of the score of young children`s spatial awareness. According to the results, environmental decoration in the area of block play according to the themes of children`s living has differences on the improvement of young children`s spatial awareness.
