    The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of language development in children with ADHD through word definition by age and word class. For word definition test of this study, we used 32 items of vocabulary subtest of Korean Educational Developmental Institute-Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (KEDI-WISC). To score vocabulary subtest, we used both methods of IQ test (KEDI-WISC) and word definition response by scoring system used for Language Assessment. The study results are as follows. First, word definition score in ADHD children was significantly low in both scoring methods of IQ test and word definition response by scoring system used for Language Assessment, compared to typically developed children. This result showed that language development in ADHD children was delayed than normal children. Secondly, age differences were significant only in the scoring method of word definition response by scoring system used for Language Assessment. Thirdly, word definition score in ADHD and typically developed children were shown a bigger score difference in common noun by children of age 7. Otherwise, in abstract nouns, adjectives and verbs word definition score showed a bigger score difference in children of age 8-9.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of language development in children with ADHD through word definition by age and word class.
