자선적 기부행동 및 자원봉사 참여행동에 대한 탐색적 분석 = An Exploratory Study on individual Philanthropic Giving and Volunteering in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 아름다운재단의 2002년 기부 및 자원봉사 조사 자료를 기초로1021명의 시민들의 응답을 활용하여 우리 시민의 자선적 기부 행동과 자원봉사 행동을 탐색적인 수준에서 분석을 하였다 또한 자선적 기부 행동과 자원봉사 행동과 관련성을 가질 수 있는 변수들의 영향력에 관해서도 탐색적인 수준에서 분석하였다. 연구 결과를 보면, 2001년 자선적 기부활동에 참여한 응답자들의 비율은 48%로 과반수에 다소 못 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 응답자들의 자선적 기부액의 규모는 평균 5만1천7백원이고 중간값은 0원인 것으로 나타났다 한편 전체 응답자들의 자선적 기부노력 규모는 개인의 소득을 기준으로 했을 때 평균 0 711%이었고, 중간값은 0%이었다 다음으로 2001년 한해 동안 자원봉사활동의 참여 비율은 16%인 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 전체 응답자들의 자원봉사활동 강도를 의미하는 자원봉사 시간의 평균은 581시간이고 중간값은 0시간인 것으로 나타났다 다음으로 자선적 기부 참여, 자선적 기부노력, 자원봉사활동 참여, 자원봉사활동 참여 강도와 통계적으로 유의미한 수준에서 탄력성을 가지는 변수를 탐색해 보기 위해 Heckman Selection Model에 의한 분석을 실시한 결과, 자선적 기부 참여 모델에서는 거주지역-서울, 경기, 인천(-), 부모의 자선적 기부활동(+), 가난한 가정에서의 성장경험(+), 본인의 자원봉사활동(+) 등이 관련성을 가지는 변수들인 것으로 나타났다 그리고 자선적 기부노력의 모델에서는 학력-대학교 이상(+)만이 관련성을 갖는 변수인 것으로 나타났다 또한 자원봉사활동에의 참여 모델에서는 연령(+), 부모의 자원봉사 활동(+), 가난한 가정에서의 성장경험(+) 등이 관련성을 가지는 변수들인 것으로 나타났다 마지막으로 자원봉사활동 참여 강도 모델에서는 통계적으로 유의한 수준에서 관련성을 갖는 변수들이 없는 것으로 나타났다 전반적으로 볼 때 본 연구 결과는 기부 및 자원봉사활동 참여와 기부노력 및 자원봉사활동 강도를 예측하는 변수들은 각각 다른 것일 수 있음을 시사한다

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Using the 2002 national survey data regarding individual philanthropic giving and volunteering constructed by the Beautiful Foundation and the Gallup Korea, this paper explores and describes the current situation of individual philanthropic giving and volunteering in Korea This paper attempts to identify (1) the degrees of participation for individual philanthropic giving and volunteering, (2) the degrees of individual philanthropic effort (philanthropic giving/individual income) and volunteering effort (time in 2001), (3) factors influencing on participation for individual philanthropic giving and volunteering, and (4) factors influencing on individual philanthropic effort and volunteering effort
The results of data analysis are as follows Among 1021 respondents, 48% had individual philanthropic giving in 2001 in the total amount of philanthropic giving excluding religious giving, the mean was 51,700 Won and the median was 0 Won. In the degree of individual philanthropic effort by the standard of individual income, the mean was 0 711% and the meman was 0%. Among 1021 respondents, 16% had volunteering activities in 2001. In the total hours of volunteering, the mean was 5 81 hours and the median was 0 hour. The degree of participation for volunteering was lower than the degree of participation for philanthropic giving Using Heckman Selection Model (two step analysis), participation for individual philanthropic giving was related to residence area-Seoul, Kyungki, Inchon(-), experience about parents' philanthropic giving(+), experience of being reared in economically difficult situation(+), and individual volunteering(+) And individual philanthropic effort was related to only education-college(+). On the other hand, participation for volunteering was related to age(+), experience about parents' volunteering(+), and experience of being reared in economically difficult situation(+). Finally, volunteering effort (time) was not related to any predictors
The results provide empirical backgrounds for discussing major characteristics of current philanthropic giving and volunteering in Korea. First, it shows that participation for philanthropic giving and volunteering is closely related to experience about parents' philanthropic giving and volunteering Second, it shows that participation for philanthropic giving and volunteering is closely related to being reared in economically difficult situation. Third, it shows that participation for philanthropic giving is related to participation for volunteering Finally, it shows that predictors on participation for philanthropic giving and volunteering do not have any explanatory power on philanthropic giving effort and volunteering effort. Thus, this final result implies that effort models for philanthropic giving and volunteering need to be approached differently from participation models for philanthropic giving and volunteering.
This paper attempts to contribute to promoting understandings about individual philanthropic giving and volunteering in Korea. This paper also discusses directions of research concerning individual giving and volunteering in Korea.
