교육과정 개정기에 따른 사회과 목표로서의 ‘민주시민’에 대한 의미와 그 시사점 = The meaning and the suggestion of citizenship as a goal of social studies according to a period of curriculum revision

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study needs to find out the meaning and the factors of democratic citizen in an ultimate goal of social studies "Promoting the quality of democratic citizen." And the purpose of it is to make clear the suggestion of the way to the education for the democratic citizen through exploring the changes and the meaning of Citizenship as a goal of social studies.
Citizenship is a healthy social consciousness that contributes to the development of the society and the nation, by getting the essential knowledge for a social life and the ability to solve a problem reasonably in a community life based on the knowledge, skill, the value and the attitude.
Also, the factors of "desirable quality of democratic citizen" have been defined differently according to the places, eras and the social changes. In the aspect of researcher, however, they have been presented like this; Respecting each other, the ability to solve general social problems reasonably and make a decision, participating in the solving the social and world-wide problems positively, and the creativity.
Furthermore, it makes clear the suggestion through analyzing the changes and the meaning of Citizenship according to the period of curriculum revision, and provides the way to the education for citizen in the future.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 사회과의 궁극적 목적인 ‘민주 시민성’의 함양에 있어서, 사회과 목표로서 민주 시민적 자질의 의미와 요소를 살펴보고, 지금까지의 교육과정 개정기에 따른 민주 시민성의 변화와 그 의미 탐색을 통하여 우리나라 민주 시민 교육의 방향에 대한 시사점을 밝혀보고자 하는데 목적이 있다. ‘시민성’이란, 지식, 기능, 가치태도 측면을 기반으로 사회생활에 필요한 지식을 갖추고, 공동체 생활에서 합리적으로 문제를 해결할 수 있는 능력을 길러, 사회와 국가의 발전에 기여할 수 있는 건전한 사회의식이라고 개념화 할 수 있다. 또한, ‘바람직한 민주 시민의 자질’에 대한 요소로는 지역, 시대, 그리고 사회의 변화에 따라 각기 다르게 규정되어 왔으나, 본 연구에서는 ‘상호 존중과 타인을 배려하는 인성, 제반 사회 문제에 대해 합리적인 문제 해결력과 의사 결정력, 그리고 사회와 세계 문제의 해결에 능동적으로 참여할 수 있는 능력’으로 제시하였다. 교육과정 개정 주기에 따른 시민성의 변화와 의미의 분석을 통하여 크게 다섯 가지의 의미를 부여하였으며, 앞으로의 민주 시민 교육에 대한 방향도 제시하여 두고 있다.
