This article aims to analyze the conception and nature of context, and propose the model and principle of context-centered literacy education. There is an indissoluble connection between text and context. It is not productive to eliminate the context from theory and practice of the writing and interpretation of text. Context is conceptualized as `physical and spiritual elements which act on the process of production and reception of text`. Context is the mother`s womb of meaning, existing in relation with text on diverse levels. The principles of context-centered literacy education are as follows: (1) providing activities which bring various contexts, (2) providing opportunities to reflect the contexts which act on the production and reception of text, (3) emphasizing the context negotiation and competition among educational subjects. To realize the principles of context-centered literacy education, the model of context-centered literacy education should include 3 stages: context operating stage, context negotiating stage, and context reflecting stage. Context-centered literacy education can make students develop their language use abilities, and form the reflectve atitude on their language acts.
