This study investigates the way in which a child`s temperament, a mother`s temperament and parenting behaviors relate to a child`s self-efficacy. Data in this study were obtained via questionnaires focusing on 200 dyads of preschool children and their mothers. Variables were the children`s and their mothers` temperaments, children`s self-efficacy, and mothers` parenting behaviors. The results of the study are as follows : (1) Physical self-efficacy differed according to children`s sex. Boys had greater physical self-efficacy than did girls. Children`s self-efficacy differed according to age. The older the child, the stronger the showing in cognitive, socio-emotional, and global self-efficacy. (2) Cognitive self-efficacy related to adjustment temperament and also to whether or not a mother engaged in reasoning guidance behaviors. Socio-emotional self-efficacy related to mothers` behaviors.
