중국 조선족 아동의 초기 다단어 발화의 의미관계 분석 = The semantic relations of Korean children's multiword utterances in Yanji, China

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to investigate categories of semantic relations between words in the early multiword utterances in order to examine the semantic relations' development of Korean-Chinese bilingual children and difference with monolingual of semantic relations categories. The subjects of this study were 35 children from 1 to 3 years of age and divided two groups using Brown's I stage and II stage. Each child's spontaneous natural speech during interaction with his/her caregiver was videotaped for about 30 minutes in which the same toys were provided as those at the nursery school attended by the child. The children's spontaneous utterances were transcribed and analysed for the semantic relations using Retherford's(1987) 20 semantic roles and KCLA(Korean Computerized Language Analysis 2.0, 2000). According the semantic roles, we analysed children's two-unit and three-unit semantic relations, then analyzed percentage of children and ranking of categories in terms of the frequency of occurrence and compared this data with studies of monolingual children.
The result showed that children of II stage more used almost semantic relations than of I stage, especially in three-unit semantic relations children of II stage more frequently used than children of I stage. This result indicated that there was a similar developmental sequence in the several semantic categories. Comparing this data with monolingual children identified that bilingual children's development of relation delayed than monolingual. So, this study is consistent with De Houwer(1995) and Gathercole(in press).

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 언어체계가 상이한 한국어-중국어 이중언어를 습득하는 중국조선족 아동들의 제1 언어인 한국어 의미관계 습득을 조사하고, 단일언어아동인 한국아동의 의미관계 습득유형과 비교하여 이중언어아동의 언어발달과정을 조사하는 것이다. 이를 위해 중국연변의 조선족 1,2,3세 아동 총 35명을 대상으로 동일한 장난감세팅하에서 약 30분동안 아동과 주양육자의 상호작용과정에서의 아동의 자발발화를 비디오로 녹화하여 전사하였다. 이 아동들의 자발발화 중 두 단어 이상 발화를 발췌하여 Retherford 등(1981)의 의미유형 분석범주에 따라 의미유형을 분류한 후 2어와 3어 의미관계를 분석하여 아동들이 사용하는 의미관계 유형을 백분율로 계산하여 순위를 매겨서 발달과정을 살펴보고, 단일언어아동의 의미관계 분석(Brown, 1973; 김영태, 1997, 조명한, 1982)과 비교하였다. 그 결과 II단계 아동들이 I단계 아동들보다 2어 의미관계와 3어 의미관계 모두 더 빈번하게 사용하였다. 특히 3어 의미관계는 II단계 아동들이 I단계아동들보다 훨씬 더 많이 사용하여 의미관계 발달과정은 단일언어아동과 유사하게 나타났다. 그러나 단일언어아동들과 비교한 결과 이중언어아동들인 중국 조선족 아동들의 의미관계 발달이 단일언어아동들보다 다소 늦은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 언어를 습득하는 초기에는 이중언어아동들이 단일언어아들보다 언어발달이 늦지만, 이중언어아동들의 언어발달 과정은 단일언어 아동과 동일하다는 선행연구(De Houwer, 1995; Gathercole, in press)의 연구를 지지하는 것이다.
