포스트모던 페미니즘에서 여성의 정체성과 차이 = Feminine Identity and Difference in Postmodern Feminism

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 페미니즘은 현대사회의 ‘지배문제’와 연관되어 제기됨으로써 ‘여성의 해방’뿐만 아니라 ‘인간의 해방’을 지향한다. 근대 페미니즘이 여성의 법적, 정치적 관리 획득에 주안점을 둔 반면, 현대 페미니즘은 여성의 정체성 확립과 이를 통한 인간으로서의 여성의 해방을 추구한다. 하지만 포스트모더니즘의 영향을 받은 포스트페미니스트들은 여성의 정체성 확립이 정치적 운동의 필요성 때문에 제기된 것으로서 오히려 여성‘들’ 사이의 차이를 억압하고 여성의 가능성을 가두어버리는 결과를 초래한다고 비판한다. 보다 구체적으로, 버틀러(Judith Butler)는 여성은 여성 자체의 내부로부터 열려있는 존재이기 때문에 결코 어떤 정체성으로 규정될 수 없으며 여성이라는 보편성은 무엇으로 규정되지 않은 채 미래의 재의미화에 열려 있다고 주장하고, 무페(Chantal Mouff)는 여성의 정계성 규정은 필요하지만 그것은 ‘마디의 순간들’에 임시적으로 정해지며, 다른 주체적 입장들을 통해 계속 중층적으로 결정되고 전도되면서 자신의 변화과정을 겪는다고 피력한다. 이와 같이 열려진 여성의 정체성 속에서만, 여성해방운동은 남성‘들’조차도 그 피해대상인 남성중심주의와 이와 유사한 다른 모든 억압적 전체주의로부터 인간을 해방시켜 줄 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Feminism directs itself not only towards the emancipation of women but towards the human emancipation. While feminism in the early modern age focused on the acquisition of the legal and political rights of women, the contemporary feminism pursues the establishment of the feminine identity. However, postfeminists, influenced by postmodern ideas, criticize the modern feminist claims in that the issue of the feminine identity has been raised for the purpose of political movements, and will result in the repression of the differences among women themselves. Judith Butler, a postmodern feminist, maintains that the emancipation of women cannot be achieved on the fixation of the feminine identity, because the feminine is reproduced within from the interior of feminity in which the feminine is permanently open and contested for the resignification of feminity itself. Chantal Mouffe also contends that the feminine identity may be temporarily fixed at the nodal points, but that it should be changed and even subversed by the plurality of subject positions and by the acts of overdetermination and displacement within itself. The feminine movement will help to emancipate not only women but all humans only when the feminine identity is open and indeterminate and thereby men who are also the victims of ‘patriarchism’ are encouraged to participate in that movement.
