Yoon Hwang(1571-1639) was a senior government official during the Chosun Dynasty. He was a devoted leader throughout a period characterized by the aggressive occupation of Japan and China. Yoon Hwang`s theories regarding politics, economics and an unyielding objection to surrender were a reflection of the turbulence of this period. These theories, which are commonly studied, provide an insight into a better understanding of the objection to surrender. While in the service of the government during the aggressive occupation, Yoon Hwang encouraged citizens to overcome the country`s crisis by using the spirit Do-Hak. Yoon Hwang offered hope to the citizenry and laboured to rid the government of corruption, particularly among its leadership. He interpreted the invasion of Gina as barbarian, designed to purposefully destroy a civilized country. His beliefs can be summarized as thought for the people and leadership reformation. Yoon Hwang embodied these beliefs to accomplish his reformation policy. He suggested that the King, and the leadership, take responsibility to end the systemic corruption and incompetence; to accept frugality; to attend to the citizenry`s well being; and to set an example to repatriate the country from foreign occupation. Yoon Hwang`s theories espousing leadership reformation and unyielding objections to surrender were interpreted to mean to love the people, to increase military power, and to take up arms against the enemy, bravely, and never to surrender. These theories were practiced by the party objecting to surrender. The party`s resistance was not reckless. The party expressed the spirit to fight against the inhuman invasion by strengthening the governance of the country through leadership reformation and a people-first policy. Understanding these theories leads to a fuller knowledge of the party`s consistent spirit of humanism and political and economic tendencies.
