The objectives of this study are to evaluate the fathering role in child rearing and by conceptualizing it's context, to provide basic informations for nursing intervention of family mental health.
The result of this study implies the fact that despite of father's spending least of time with his child, he contributes great influence on the child development.
When father participates attentively in child rearing, son become more masculine -like characteristics and daughter more feminine. Furthermore, father is as able as mother in carrying out parent's role in child rearing and the father's interest and attention on child is not significantly different from that of the mother's. Thus, father is becoming an visible member of the family in child care service ; he now demands more of his rights and accepts his responsibilities as a vital member of the family in childrearing.
Therefore, in order to avoid superficial and fragmented nursingcare, nurse should realize the fact that if the demand of a family member is not fullfilled, the whole family is affected and help father to clarify his fathering role and to implement his fathering role as an integrated member in family context.
