The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between kindergartners’ emotional intelligence and the mothers’ parenting attitudes. The subjects of this study were 188 kindergartners and their mothers in Gwangju. The statistical precedures adopted for the analysis of the data included means, standard deviation,, frequency, percentage, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, one-way ANOVA, DUNCAN method for post-hoc comparison. The results of this study were as follows : 1. There were significant correlations between the kinderrgartners’ emotional intelligence and the mothers’ ‘autonomy’ parenting attitudes. Specifically, the mothers’ ‘autonomy’ parenting attitudes showed significant correlations with the children’s ‘self awareness’, and ‘other regulation’. 2. It was shown that the mothers’ ‘affection’ factor of parenting attitudes was affected by numbers of siblings, and this was not affected by ‘children’s sex’. If a child had more than 2 siblings, the ‘affection’ factor of mothers’ parenting attitudes was lower than that of children who were the only son/daughter. 3. The factors of the children’s emotional intelligence(i.e., self regulation, other awareness, and other regulation ability) were affected by children’s sex. The children’s emotional intelligence of girls was higher than that of boys. The factors of the children’s emotional intelligence(i.e., self awareness, self regulation, other awareness, and other regulation ability) were not affected numbers of siblings.
