The purpose of this study was to investigate into the meaning on which first-grade students has experienced for several months after their entrance into middle school. For this purpose, 10 first-grade students were interviewed. The interviewed data were analyzed by the phenomenological method based on van Mannen`s interpretative phenomenology, Giorgi`s psychological phenomenological method, and Hycner`s phenomenological approaches. The major results obtained from this study were summarized as follows: First, first-grade students got a feeling of anxiety and fear stemmed from the rigid school regulations, an academic record, hard dairy work, and school violence. Second, first-grade students arrived at the age of puberty, and took a growing interest in the other sex and formed a friendship. The suggestions the results gave on education field were summarized as follows: First, adjustment programs for first-grade students are to be developed and implemented right after their entrance into middle school. Second, a vertical articulation between elementary school curriculum and middle school cuniculum is to be maintained in developing the National Curriculum. Third, courses for career education in the first grade year are to be introduced in the middle school. Fourth, sex education programs for first-grade students are to be developed and implemented effectively in the middle school. Fifth, it is necessary for teachers to learn dreams, frustration, anxiety, fear, and curiosity of middle school students in preservice teacher education.
