Various social phenomena which are the main research objects of social sciences are mostly not characterized as linear causal relationship by certain single factor, but as non-linear causal relationship by complex interactions of such diverse factors as political, economical, social, cultural, and technical ones. On that account, it could not be possible to understand given social phenomena more properly without more comprehensive and general concepts and frameworks of analysis.
Systems analysis is a content-free and generally applicable methodology which approaches to the given phenomenon synthetically, using various concepts and frameworks derived from the general systems theory. This means that systems analysis could be generally applied to all fields of knowledge, crossing over a certain field, that are now more specialized and fragmented.
The core characteristics of systems analysis as a methodology is that it uses concepts and framework of analysis which are generally applicable to all fields of knowledge without losing the specialties of each field of knowledge. In other words, it focuses not on denying the fragmented and speicalized knowledge of individual diciplines, but on reintegrating these knowledge meaningfully. At the same time, with such an general and dynamic concept as "system", it approaches to the given object both macroscopically and microscopically.
It could be said systems analysis has the methodological utility as the social scientific methodology in that it could enhance our understanding to the social phenomena which show complex inter-connectedness, emergent properties, and non-linear dynamics.
