Although economic education as a school subject has been taught in Korean secondary schools, its educational effects seem ambiguous and even intangible. This paper, based on this circumstance, attempts to examine both the status quo and the problems of Korean economic education, in order to search for the ways of improvement. First of all, we briefly examine the rationales and goals of economic education, and reviewed the literature on the reinforcement of economic education. The problems of economic education, then, are identified in the light of textbook, curriculum, enrichment program, teaching materials, instructional methods, teachers, and students. Finally, we suggest that it is vital for us to construct a bridge between local schools and organizations for economic education, to design the standard instructional models for economics class, to prepare for the efficient retraining programs of in-service teachers, to present enterprise-experiencing programs and to establish economic education center.
