The purpose of this study is to examine the principal, the vice principal, and the teacher's expectation of the vice principal's role, the vice principal's occupational stress and the relationship between them. For this purpose, the study questions were set as follows:
1. What is the principal, the vice principal and the teacher's expectation of the vice principal's role in the kindergarten?
2. What is the vice principal's occupational stress in the kindergarten?
3. What is the relationship between the expectation of the vice principal's role and the occupational stress in the kindergarten?
Two Hundred Sixteen kindergarten teachers who consisted of 72 principals, 72 vice principals and 72 teachers from 72 kindergartens in Seoul and Kyonggi Province were selected for the survey of this study. To research the principal, the vice principal and the teacher's expectation of the vice principal's role, the vice principal's occupational stress and the relationship between them, questionnaires for the principal, the vice principal and the teacher were used.
To measure the principal, the vice principal and the teacher's expectation of the vice principal's role, the tool used in this study was the questionnaire that had been developed by Il Jun Song(1999) and modified by Myung Sun Yeo(2002). It consists of 30 questions and each question is measured from one to five points. To investigate the vice principal's occupational stress, the tool used in this study was questionnaire that was developed by Ha Geub Jo(1994) and modified for the kindergarten condition. This tool consists of 13 questions and each question is measured on a maximum scale of 5 points. Collected data were analyzed by frequency, t-test, F-test, and Pearson's correlation.
The results obtained from this study are as follows:
First, the principal's expectation of the vice principal's role appeared the autonomy supervision, the kindergarten operation management, the curriculum operation, the personnel management, the relations of local community, the financial & official management in its descending order. But the vice principal's expectation appeared the kindergarten operation management, the personnel management, the curriculum operation, the autonomy supervision, the relations of local community, the financial & official management in its descending order.
On the whole, there was significant difference among the principal, the vice principal and the teacher's expectation of the vice principal's role in the kindergarten. Considering the subcategories, there was significant difference in the kindergarten operation management, the curriculum operation, the financial & official management, between the principal's · the vice principal's groups and teacher's group. And there was significant difference in the autonomy supervision between the principal's group and the vice principal's · teacher's groups.
Second, the vice principal's occupational stress in kindergarten appeared the factor related parents, the higher · institution, the factor related teacher, the educational activities, the working conditions in order. And there was not significant difference wholly in the occupational stress according to the vice principal's personal background. But there was significant difference in the vice principal's career, the foundation type of kindergarten according to the subcategories of the vice principal's personal background.
Third, there was not significant relationship between the vice principal's role expectation and the occupational stress in kindergarten. But considering the subcategories, there was significant relationship between the whole expectation and the higher institution, between the curriculum operation and the whole occupational stress, between the curriculum operation and the higher · institution, between the financial & official management and the working conditions. There was not significant the relationship between the expectation difference of the teacher · the vice principal and the occupational stress. But in the subcategories, there was significant the relationship between the whole expectation difference and the factor related teacher. There was not significant the relationship between the expectation difference of the principal · the teacher and the occupational stress. But in the subcategories, there was significant the relationship between the curriculum operation and the whole occupational stress.
