This study is based on analysis of practical data about experiences and costs of the private tutoring of university students for preparing employment
The private tutoring of university students for preparing employment has led university education to be toward excessive employment preparation and raised discussions about equality of educational opportunity by increasing expenditure of private education costs. Accordingly, this study is to understand the reason why the private tutoring also has been enlarged in universities and to analyze social meanings of the private tutoring in Korean society.
Concrete research issues to be examined are as follows; first, actual conditions of the private tutoring of university students for preparing employment; second, factors affecting experiences and costs of the private tutoring of university students; third, factors greatly affecting the private tutoring among personal factors of university students; and fourth, difference in the private tutoring by location of university, university ranking and major.
Findings of this study are summarized that experiences and costs of private tutoring of university students for preparing employment are correlated with socioeconomic backgrounds of a home, major, location of university, and university ranking. These findings imply that socioeconomic status of a home can affect occupation and social status of university students and socioeconomic inequality may arise through educational opportunity of the private tutoring.
