낮은 자기통제력의 결과로서의 청소년비행과 학교에서의 징계경험 = Juvenile Delinquency and Disciplinary Punishment at School as Consequences of Low Self-Control

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the self-control theory(Gottfredson and Hirschi, 1990) with the Korea Youth Panel Survey data, the first national panel data about Korean adolescents. Self-control was measured by adding one more element of "lack of possession of and appreciation for cognitive or academic skills and planning" to the 6 elements what Grasmick et al.(1993) suggested.
Overall, the test results support the claims of the self-control theory. Research findings show that 8th grade girls' self-control level is higher than that of the 8th grade boys. Test results also show that boys and girls low on self-control are more likely than others to have committed crime, delinquency, and computer-related deviance, a new form of juvenile delinquency. Findings show that adolescents low on self-control are more likely to be punished by the school authority for their delinquency.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 갓프레드슨과 허쉬(Gottfredson and Hirschi, 1990)의 자기통제이론을 국내에서 처음으로 전국적인 자료를 가지고 검증하고, 자기통제력을 기존의 연구들과 달리 7개의 하위영역으로 구성함으로써 청소년에게 적합한 측정을 시도하였다. 분석을 통해서 이론이 주장한대로 여자 청소년의 자기통제력이 남자 청소년보다 높다는 점이 검증되었다. 자기통제력은 청소년의 지위비행, 범죄, 남 괴롭히기를 설명하였고 신종 비행이라고 할 수 있는 컴퓨터 관련 일탈도 설명하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 학생들이 학교에서 받는 징계경험에도 자기통제이론이 적용될 수 있음이 확인되어져서 학교의 징계가 학생의 사회경제적 특징에 근거해서 일방적으로 주어지는 낙인이 아니고 개인차원의 특징인 낮은 자기통제력에 대한 반응이라는 점을 알 수 있었다.
