This study examined the possible causes of hair damage and the extent of damage made on hair due to these effects. The study was conducted by using both literature sources and experimentation.
For the experiment, 600 Seoul women in their twenties were asked to finish a questionnaire survey and requested to provide hair samples. 581 of these were used for final data analysis. 180 - 260VAC, 47 - 63Hz by some tech for scope 1/3" SONY SuperHAD CCDTM for image sensor and X800 lenses for magnification were used. Frequency analysis and rate analysis were used for the statistical analysis.
The results consist of three parts. First, over 80 percent of the women used in the study had long or extra long hair, which conveys that the hair growth period was extensive. Therefore, it was hypothesized that the hair was under internal damaging conditions for a long period of time. After an examination of the hair was conducted, it was found to rough and dry, which supports the hypothesis.
Second, 81 percent of the women used thermal devices on their hair. The hypothesis was that these women would have more hair swelling than those who did not use thermal techniques. The results showed thermal devices to be the second highest cause of swelling in hair.
Third, 84 percent and 89 percent of the women have had perms or coloring, respectively. Perms and coloring suggest chemical damage. It was hypothesized that chemicals cause the most damage to hair. The results supported this hypothesis by showing the most damaged hair within the experiment.
In conclusion, society lives with hair damage caused by internal or external factors. Hair damage can be caused by any number or combination of reasons. The key to having healthy and beautiful hair is prevention. If the causes of hair damage are known, it is easy to avoid damage. This is more effective than getting hair care after damage has already been done. The purpose of this study is to convey scientifically supported information in order to assist those who study scalp and hair.
