사회자본의 연구동향과 과제 = A Literature Review on Social Capital and Its Spatial Implications

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 들어 사회과학에서 활발히 논의되고 있는 사회자본(social capital)의 개념은 기존의 전통적인 자본의 개념만으로는 설명할 수 없는 경제적 현상의 영역을 설명하는데 있어 유용한 것으로 알려져 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 사회자본의 개념과 특성, 그리고 사회자본 구성요소로서 신뢰, 네트워크, 규범의 특성을 중심으로 사회자본에 대한 그 동안의 연구동향을 고찰함으로써, 산업지역사회의 존립기반을 이해하기 위한 개념적 도구로서 사회자본의 개념을 적용해 보고자 한다. 사회자본은 자원을 보다 효율적으로 얻을 수 있는 기회가 창출되는 사회적 관계와 그러한 사회적 관계에 의해 형성된 신뢰, 네트워크, 규범 그리고 이러한 것들을 포함하는 공식적 제도와 관계구조이다. 변화하는 경제환경 속에서 지역발전에 필수적인 지식과 정보를 획득하려면, 기업이 서로 협력하여 학습해야 하는데 오늘날 파편화된 기업들이 협력하는데 필요한 요소가 바로 사회자본이다. 따라서 한 지역사회에 사회자본이 어떻게 작용하는지, 어떠한 긍 · 부정적인 영향을 미치는지에 대한 연구는 산업지역사회 혹은 산업집적지의 존립기반을 해석하는데 있어 중요한 의의를 가진다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The concept of social has recently drawn a great deal of attention by social scientists. It is generally acknowledge that the literature on social capital have focused on just analyzing the concept of social capital. As a result, such a tendency has prevented researchers from explaining the specific phenomena caused by social capital exactly and measuring the components of social capital effectively such as trust, norms and network. In order to balance this tendency, a study based on real experiences should be emphasized. By concentrating on the empirical study on the social capital, the components of the social capital can be more easily analyzed and measured than before. The spatial implications of social capital can be dealt with in view of knowledge and information which are essential elements in gaining competitiveness for a region and its industries. Most companies in a region have fairly separate and unique systems with others. So, it is very important for them to search for knowledge and information together through the learning deeply rooted in close corporation among them. It is social capital, as a resource for corporation between companies, that makes this organizational learning possible. Consequently, social capital is worthy enough to be discussed as a mechanism for analyzing the development of a region.
