Objectives : The weight control behaviors and eating disorders are increasing rapidly since 1990's in Korea. The purpose of this study was to identify the level of eating disorders symptoms and depression in normal female and female with eating disorders.
Methods: The subjects were 179 normal female who are in middle school, high school, and college, and 159 eating disorder patients who visited at eating disorders clinic "M" and diagnosed according to DSM-Ⅳ. Data were collected through the use of Eating Disorders Inventory(EDI), the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) from March to October 2004 and analyzed using SPSS WIn for t-test and pearson correlation.
Results: The mean scores onthe eating disorder symptoms(EDI) were drive for thinness 8.56, bulimia 3.47, body dissatisfaction 13.16, ineffectiveness 7.38, perfectionism 6.14, interpersonal distrust 3.76, interoceptive awareness 5.72, maturity fear 6.64 in normal female. In female with eating disorders, The mean scores on the eating disorder symptoms(EDI) were drive for thiness 13.52, bulimia 11.64, body dissatisfaction 16.56, ineffectiveness 12.71, perfectionism 8.03, interpersonal distrust 8.30, interoceptive awareness 8.87, maturity feat 8.62. The mean scores on th depression was 13.54 in normal female, and 22.45 in female with eating disorders.
Conclusions: There were significant differences in the eating disorder symptoms and depression between the normal female and female with eating dissorders. Therfore, The preventive education need for narmal female focused drive for thinness, ineffectiveness, maturity fear.
