This paper focuses on teaching Korean Culture through the Korean poetry in teaching Korean as a foreign language.
In these days the importance of `curture' in Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language(TKFL) has come to be on the increase. Known to all, the word of culture has various meanings, but the culture in TKFL has been simply treated as a kind of the knowledge about Korea. It needs to bring the thoughtway and values of Korean into focus for the culture in TKFL.
With this view, the Korean poetry is useful materials for TKFL, because there are the throughway and values of Korean in the Korean poetry. In addition, because words and sentence structure in the Korean poetry are the typical examples of Korean, the poetry can be used for teaching vocabulary and construction.
For the successful TKFL through the poetry, it is preferable that the methods are based on intertextuality. All poems have relations with the `pre-tent' and other poems, and have social and poetic conventions. These things considered, the intertextual method of TFKL would be an efficient one. Moreover, this method make learner-centered education possible.
