Marital violence can affect not only dyadic relationship but also children. If children witness marital violence or experience violence directly, it can impact on their growth, development and even adulthood. In this viewpoint, this study are to examine the interrelationship between marital violence and child abuse. This study analyzed households with children out of 1997 the Korean National Family Violence Survey on 1523 households.
Study findings are as follows: first, husbands who use violence towards wives abuse children as well. Second, wives who use violence towards husbands also tend to abuse children. Third, both husbands and wives experiencing mutual violence show high level of aggression towards children. However, wives can abuse children as responsive and second violence to wife abuse. In conclusion, it is disclosed that marital violence and child abuse have the close interrelationship.
