    The number of private practitioner, like a dentist, has increased in social work profession in the U.S. Annual income as well as professional autonomy and authority have been major benefits to enter in private practice. Furthermore, agency-based practice has stressed social workers to give up, from time to time, their confidence in the name of organizational goals. However, private practitioners do not need to worry about this kind of Stress.
    The growth of private practice in social work profession has raised an issue of the drain of experienced social workers from non-profit private/public settings to for-profit private settings. In addition, private practitioners appeared to prefer providing services for well-off white middle class. This issue challenges with social work values and mission.
    It has been known that there is no sizable private practitioners in Korea. Thus, the experience and the debate of private practice in the U.S. may not be relevant to the social work in Korea. However, suppose that a social work market for middle class is generated, the debate of private practice can make several implications for us.
