The purpose of this study was to explore the differences in children`s play styles in accordance with their cognitive styles and personality types. The subjects were 118 4- and 5-year-old children enrolled in a preschool located in Seoul area. From these children, 30 field-dependent and 30 field-independent children were selected by administering PEFT. Also, 22 introversion and 19 extroversion children were selected by Schaefer Behavior Inventory. These children were observed during indoor free-play periods to determine their play styles. The data were analyzed by t-test and stepwise multiple regression method. According to the results, children`s play styles differed depending on their cognitive styles. Most of the field-independent children showed the leader play styles, while the field-dependent children tend to show the follower play styles. Children`s play styles also differed depending on their personality types. The extroversion children showed the leader play styles, while the introversion children showed the follower play styles.
