The purpose of this paper were preliminary study to validate a emotional intelligence scale for Korean young children(EISC). For developing of new scale for Korean young children, this paper, firstly, made up for weak points in the previous studies, secondly, translated and revised Trait Meta Mood Scale for elementary school Children(TMMS-C). From previous researches concerning emotional intelligence scale, this study generate following the two question. Question 1 : Does the construct of EISC concur with that of TMMS-C ? Question 2 : How are reliability and validation of EISC ? Fifteen three-year-old, nineteen four-year-old, and twenty seven five-year-old children were selected from kindergarten located in Seoul. A total of 61 young children form three-year-old to five-year-old completed 16 item of EISC. Subjects also completed Children`s Depression Inventory(CDI), Social Anxiety and Social Avoidance(SAA), and Multiple Life Satisfaction Scale for Children(MLSSC), as well as, a Friendship Assessment(FA). Internal validity of the EISC was tested by assessing internal consistency(cronbach α ) and item-total score correlation. External validity of EISC was assessed by examining the relation other reference scales(CDI, SAA, MLSSC, FA). Results can be summarized as follows. First, finding indicated that subfactors of EISC are differed from those of TMMS-C. TMMS-C subfactors are attention to feelings, clarity of feelings and mood repair, while EISC are four factors, that is, recognition of emotion, acceptance of emotion, regulation of emotion, and expression of emotion. Second, finding indicated that the subfactors of EISC were positively correlated with SAA, MLSSC, and were negatively correlated with CDI. FA was not correlated with EISC. According to this results, except FA, other scales will be used as reference scales for validation of EISC. Third, finding indicated that EISC had adequate internal validity(Cronbach`s α.78)
