The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of singing fairy tales on first graders`. musical and language abilities in the first grade of elementary school. The detailed research questions of this study were as follows: 1. What effect does singing fairy tales have on a first graders` musical abilites? 2. What effect does singing fairy tales have on first graders` language abilites? 3. There is any difference according to their gender in musical abilites? 4. There is any difference according to their gender in language abilites? In order to investigate the above, two classes consisting of seventy seven children were selected from $quot;B elementary school$quot; located in Kwang-ju. Two classes were selected, was similar to career, gender, age and attitude for teaching of five classes, assigned experimental group and control group. There was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group identified in the pre-survey with regards to musical and language abilities. The children`s musical ability test that was revised and supplied was used by Park Hyun-Jin. However the language ability test selected ten questions of fifty-five questions in the first graders language guide book was developed by the Department of Education in Korea. The experimental group singing fairy tales for fourty minutes in the mornings study time, and the control group read and studied mathematics. The test was carried out six times a week for eight weeks and the result of the pre-test and main test was computerized with the SAS system. The result of this study was as follows. First, singing fairy tales evaluated the children`s skills like the expressing rhythm, singing, performing musical instruments and creative skills. Second, language ability and categorized items like speaking-listening skill were not developed by singing fairy tales. But singing fairy tales was meaningful in the evaluation of children`s reading ability. Third, there was no significant differences according to gender regarding the children`s musical ability. But there was a meaningful difference according to gender in the case of singing, the girls proved better in this domain than in the boys. Fourth, there children`s language ability and in the case of speaking-listening and reading was no significant diffenence according to gender. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that singing fairy tales has an effect on the development of musical abilites in the first graders. It was also seen that their language abilities was effected in the form of their reading abilities.
