This study examined the role of contextual support inherent in the structure of tasks in the acquisition of cardinality concept. One hundred 3- and 4-year-olds participated in the two experimental conditions: a No Context version and Full Context Version. In both versions; children were administered two kinds of numerical task: how-many task and give-a-number task. The results showed a facilitative effect of contextual support on the 3-year olds. Four-year-olds outperformed three-year-olds on cardinal number task and all children acquired higher score in the how-many task than give-a-number task.
