The purpose of this study was to investigate how the functional impairment of demented elderly and caregiving resources have an effect on the degree of caregiving stress.
The subjects of this study were married daughters, daughters-in-law, and relatives who were caregiving to demented elderly. The 71 subjects were selected from the general hospital, specialized hospital for dementia, and welfare center in the city of Taegu.
A questionnaire was used as survey method. The data were analysed through factor analysis, cronbach's α, frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis.
The major findings of this study were as follows:
First, personalityㆍemotional and behavior impairment of demented elderly had an effect on caregiving stress of caregiver.
Second, personal and family system resources of caregiver had an effect on the degree of stress in caring for demented elderly.
