The purpose of this study was to find out linguistic responses of kindergarteners to various types of picture books, mainly based on transmitted, realistic and fantasy picture books. Sixty kindergarteners, twenty children each from three kindergartens, participated in this study. The children were in the twelve small groups of five and were read six books(two books of each kind of picture books : transmitted, realistic, fantasy).
The results of this study were as following
First, kindergarteners showed the most interest in response to fantasy picture books, and significant differences were found in fantasy and realistic picture books.
Second, with all genre of picture books the children response with more interest to the illustration than the text, and understood the content of the stories by relating and combining the text and the illustration. There wasn't significant differences according to the genre of picture books with text, but with illustration the they showed difference in response in the order of fantasy, transmitted and realistic picture books.
Third, in all picture books the kindergarteners showed the most responses to the characters in the stories.
Fourth, among different types of response patterns, more informative response were found in all of the three genre of picture books than any other pattern of response.
