For the purpose of incorporating traditional play elements in today`s play curriculum, this study analyzed the properties of children`s traditional play and play materials in Korea. 78 types of traditional play were examined. These activities were multi-aged, boy-centered, could be used by small groups, were played outdoors, or were seasonal activities centering around the solar calendar,. They we multi-cultural, often using natural materials and (or seasonal of the 24 solar terms), multi-cultural, using natural materials and songs or chants. All had been used to facilitate children`s development in the past. The names of many varied with the different locals in which they were used. Data collected in this study suggests that the children mixed the natural and the artificial in their use of traditional materials, and that they included their own bodies and the singing of songs as part of their play.
