The purpose of this study was to investigate the interrelatedness of reading and writing in language development of children. 19 five-year-old children (mean age 5.8 years) of two kindergartens located in Seoul were selected for the study. A case study method was used to collect data and investigate the connectedness. A child visual que writing development test was used in the collection of data. An analysis of writing test samples demonstrated how reading effected the children`s writing with regard to punctuation, the use of conjunctions, the use of those unique methods of expression characteristic picture story books and sense of story. It is revealed that when children write, they imitate and use the conventions and rhetoric which they have seen in their books and in environmental print. These findings demonstrate that reading effects writing development and both of them are mutually supportive. Therefore it is recommended that parents and teachers prepare various, qualitative environmental print and select various, high quality picture story books and read them frequently to their children as they are very important reading resources for children`s language development.
