유치원 교사와 어머니의 부모 교육 내용 요구 조사 = Needs Assessment of Kindergarten Mothers and Teachers for Contents of Parent Education

This study investigated present modes of parent education in the kindergartens, and the expressed needs of mothers and teachers for knowledge about child development, child rearing methods and related areas. The subjects were 80 teachers and 674 mothers of 21 kindergartens in Seoul. The instruments were two questionnaires on a 4-point scale. The questionnaire for mothers was composed of 64 items, and that for teachers had 57 items. The data were analyzed with frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test. The results showed that 1) the most common types of parent education were teacherparent conferences and newsletters. Mothers pointed out lectures, group discussion and individual conferences as their preferred types of parent education. The contents most often presented in parent education were child development and techniques to improve parent-child relations, parent participation in clild`s educational activity was least emphasized. The contents and methods of parent education were mainly decided by the directors in consultation with teachers. 2) Kindergarten teachers perceived higher need for parent education than mothers, especially in the areas of shaping of child behavior and structuring the physical environment of the home. Mothers, however, showed more need than teachers for parent education in the sub-areas of illness and care and home teaching plan.
