The aim of this research was to explore the age and sex differences in children`s emotional intelligence, and to examine the relationship between children`s emotional intelligence and emotional and behavioral problems. The subject of this study was 109 children aged 4-6 years old. Of these, 53 children were males and 56 females. The children`s emotional intelligence was examined using `Emotional Intelligence Rating Scale for Preschool Children (EIRSPC)` (Kim, 1998) and emotional and behavioral problems using `Preschool Behaviour Checklist (PBCL)` (MGuire & Richman, 1988). The results from this study were as follows; Firstly, the EIRSPC scores were increasing according to age. `This result implies the developmental trend of emotional intelligence. Secondly, there was no sex difference in the EIRSPC scores. That is, the emotional intelligences for boys and girls were not significantly different. Thirdly, the EIRSPC scores were significantly related with the PBCL scores. It means that children`s emotional and behavioral problems are decreasing as their emotional intelligence is increasing. And, the sub-factors of `regulation of emotion` and `relationship with peers` in emotional intelligence predicted the emotional and behavioral problems and they explained 57% of the variance.
