통합교과에서의 사고력 계발 = Teaching Thinking Abilities in the Integrated Subjects

In this study I pursued how the thinking education could be included in the integrated subjects. First, I have reviewed the meaning of the meta-curriculum of Ackerman & Perkins (1989) : the continum of teaching thinking abilities model and its procedure to include in the thinking education. Also I have examined the reason why teaching thinking abilities should be integrated, its merits and effects on students` performance, and some criteria in the basis of the meta-curriculum which was proposed by Ackerman & Perkins. Second, we should integrate the ideal thinking abilities of the educated person according to the very nature of `integration`. And among the theories of thinking education, especially the content integrated perspective, `the general model`, that proposes the idea of `across the curriculm` is considered the most promising approach to practice the thinking education in the integrated subjects. Neverthless, we need both the subjects model and the general model for thinking education. And we should take the dual-perspective which is applied differently in terms of the nature of subjects. Third, the current status of thinking education in the integrated subjects were reviewed. Although we acknowledge that the thinking education is already included in the subject matter, in fact we have had a little attention about the thinking education itself. But even if teaching thinking abilities is included in the school curriculum and its model is established in a very specific level, it is not easy for us to practice instruction involved teaching thinking abilities. Above all, in order to introduce teaching thinking abilities in the curriculum, all circumstances of school must be change in holistically. Therefore it is necessary to develop various devices in terms of the meta-curriculum presented in this article : detailed method of thinking education : sequences and linkages of subject-contents : auxiliary materials of teaching thinking abilities activities which will provide much aid to teachers.
