This study examined the relationships between adolescent suicidal ideation and diverse levels of variables such as social, psychological, family, and school adjustment. The respondents for the survey consisted of 635 adolescents who were first and second grade of high school, resided in Seoul and Pusan. Data was analyzed using ANOVA and regression by SPSS Windows program. The results were as follows: 1) The degree of suicidal ideation was significantly higher for girls than boys; 2) neither religion nor socio-economic status were related to the adolescent suicidal ideation ; 3) The family life experiences in the past (i.e., the negative parenting experience, maladjustment family history) were stronger predictors of adolescent suicidal ideation than the present family relationships (i.e., parents` marital intimacy, parent-adolescent communication). Also, school adjustment and depression were very strong predictors of adolescent suicidal ideation. Some suggestions for prevention and intervention against adolescent suicide were provided.
