The relationship between child and parent rives deep effect during the entire life of human being not only the childhood but the adulthood as well and the importance of parent's caring behavior with the attachment of parent-children are so huge.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parental childhood attachment on parental caring behavior. This study would provide some useful information about parent's caring behavior by mentioning the importance of continuity between generation's caring behavior and the childhood attachment.
The subjects were 312 fathers and 326 mothers of pre-school children in Seoul and Ky ngki Province.
The instruments used for this study were the Adult Attachment Scale developed by Hazan & Shaver(1992) and the Maternal Caring Behavior Scale which was Proposed by Park, Sung Yeon and Lee, Sook(1990).
The data were analyzed with multiple repression. Cronbach's α was computed for the reliabilities of the scales.
The results of this study were as follows :
First, father's attachment to both of his parents has the effect of reasoning guidance, affect, achievement, active involvement among the variables in the set of parent's caring behavior. Father's attachment to his fore-fathers has the effect of authoritarian control, limit setting.
Second, in case of mother's attachment to both of her parents has the effect of affect among the variables in the set of parent's caring behavior. Mother's attachment to her fore-fathers has the effect of reasoning guidance, achievement, active involvement. limit setting. Mother's attachment to her fore-mothers has the effect of authoritarian control.
