도시재개발 측면의 도심공동화 대처방안 = Strategy for Doughnut Phenomenon in City Center in regard to Urban Renewal

Symptoms of city center decline became visible in the states capital cities since the beginning of the 1990s in Korea. This situation has gradually accelerated to the present. A few strategies to cope with the city center problem are being planned and implemented by the local governments, but it is still premature to evaluate their influence. For this reason, it is unclear which strategies should be adopted and how they could be applied to the present Korean situation. In this paper, the background and reason of the much-debated doughnut phenomenon was studied with reference to the Korean situation. Subsequently the possible approaches to revitalization were introduced and analyzed in a case study of Daejeon Metropolitan City. As result, adequate strategies for city center deterioration in regard to urban dimension were examined, and future planning directions for old city center revitalization were suggested under consideration of the Korean situation.
