The purpose of this study was to seek ways to activate educational connection between kindergarten and elementary school by examining the opinions of elementary school teachers and parents. Educational connection between kindergarten and elementary school has been required in light of child developmental characteristics and curricular efficiency.
The subjects in this study were 210 first-grade teachers and 262 parents in elementary schools. The 30-item questionnaire included four areas: general condition of educational connection, connection of guidance for learning, connection of guidance in the ordinary life, connection of educational setting. The collected data were analyzed by x^2 and t-test in order to compare between teachers' opinion and parents' opinion.
The findings of this study were as below:
First, concerning general condition of educational connection, its current situation was viewed more favorably by the parents than by the teachers, but the teachers expressed higher need for educational connection between kindergarten and elemenatry school than the parents did. Also, teachers and parents pointed out that both kindergarten curriculum and elementary curriculum should be appropriately modified.
Second, in terms of guidance for learning, both teachers and parents viewed that it is necessary to offer better guidance for learning. Especially, both groups put on emphasis in the cooperative work for the development of curriculum in the kindergarten and elementary school.
Third, regarding guidance in the ordinary life, both teachers and parents also wanted better guidance in the ordinary life. Specifically, both groups emphasized that students should be instructed to acquire proper habits in the every life.
Fourth, in relation to educational setting, both teachers and parents required the improvement of class size.
