    The purpose of this paper is to establish the notion of Korean cliches (Sangyongeogu) appearing in modern Korean, and to analyze the principles of meaning composition. This thesis is divided up into three chapters. In chapter 1, I present accounts of the aim and the scope of this thesis. In chapter 2, I concentrate the general notion of cliches. I define the concept of cliches which is based of the result from consideration of the relation of the collocations, idiomatic phrases and cliches in the point of structureㆍmeaning. In chapter 3, I analyze the principles of meaning composition I analyze and describe the meaning of cliches by metaphor and metonymy on the basis of experientialism of cognitive linguistics and find out the mechanism of meaning communication which brings the interpretation of cliches from meaning of constituents.
